I have always loved college football, and when thinking of a topic to do for my final, I thought ‘what better way to approach this topic then to approach it with the thing I am most passionate about’. Instead of talking about recent history in college football such as the dominance of teams such as Alabama, Georgia, Miami, and Florida, I decided to go all the way back to the early 1900’s and late 1800’s to do research on. I believe that this was an important topic because football is something that is beloved by many different people across the world, me included, and the more I thought about it, the more I realized that I didn’t really know much of anything about the origins of college football other than that the Ivy League teams dominated.
The research itself was pretty difficult, having to pull old newspaper articles from the Times and using that information to transfer to the Prezi video. Overall tho, after I found two really solid articles talking about the origins of Yale, I knew what my topic had to be on. Yale and Harvard are still a heated rivalry to this day and I thought it was vital to look at who really began the creation of formations, plays, strategies, and the overall layout of the sport. My favorite part about my research was seeing the dominance of Yale and how fast they shot up the ladder regarding success in football. Overall, I loved this project and am looking forward to seeing how my project ages over time and which teams become the new “Yale” of our generation of American College Football
