I think this was a fun article to end on because it connects us more with the sports history of our school that has been forgotten over the years as soccer has faded at the school. The article focuses on soccer at Appalachian State and gives us a lot of the historical success the team had in the 70s and 80s and how they were one of the best teams in the country and had some of the best players in the country.
I think some of my biggest takeaways from the article is the fall from grace that Appalachian state soccer has had not only recently but just after their massive success how quickly the team was dismantled and pushed out for other sports. This has been further pushed by the soccer team being all the way cut because of covid in 2020 which was the end of a crazy history of soccer here at App. I think it is insane the amount of talent that app had during there prime and how fast we lost much of that talent and moved on from such a successful team to push towards what we thought were greener pastures in other sports.
I hope that one day Appalachian mens soccer can maybe make a comeback in our school and build upon its fascinating legacy. This may never happen but is also very possible so only time will tell we just have to wait and remember what App once was and what it can be again
