IndyCar racing was once deemed as the spectacle of American racing, but overtime lost its luster and fans through financial turmoil and because of safety regulations that hindered the once high octane sport. Though these two aspects are highly regarded as the key reasons for IndyCars collapse, I believe that another aspect can be added as well. That aspect being American patriotism. My goal of this project was to not only provide specific examples of true definitive reasons for what happened to mainstream IndyCar racing, but to also bring in a new perspective of the situation. That perspective was really centered around American patriotism and how there was a strong sense of patriotism in the United States after the Cold War. Overall I hope that readers will be able to see that as the sport attempted to grow on an international scale that it actually begin to get away from its roots, which would eventually lead to its complete collapsed in 2003.
